Brittany Lombardi

M Ed.

To whom this may concern,
My name is Brittany, I am a Cumberland resident and my son is in kindergarten at Cumberland Hill Elementary. As a mother of two, I have seen my fair share of inadequate and/or not financially feasible childcare facilities while searching for summer or school year services. ... While some of these facilities are overwhelmed with many children and not enough staff giving individualized productive attention, I have not experienced this with Bianca and her staff at Shine Bright.
Besides being CPR and DCYF certified, I feel more than comfortable leaving my son (who was recently diagnosed with ADHD) in their care because of their attentiveness to keeping their ratios of one staff to thirteen children consistent. This alone makes me feel at ease knowing that the children are safe. More so, as an educator myself, I am beyond satisfied that the children are given academic and social-emotionally centered activities to keep them engaged.
Please consider providing transportation for children attending Shine Bright before and after school next school year, there are so many families that would benefit from their affordable and qualitative services. We as a community need more positive, neutering, and affordable childcare options for our children; Shine Bright is more than deserving of this necessity.
Thank you.

I would like to share my experience with the before and after school program at Shine Bright in Cumberland.
Before my my son started this program, he attended two other before and after school programs prior to Shine Bright. One was the Alphabest program located right at CHILL and the other was BGCNRI. ... These programs were ok (at best), butwere short lived due to my son suffering from behavior disorders. He was not on medication yet, as well as, the instructors of these before and after school programs were not as “well equipped” or ready to handle kids with these types of behaviors disorders, not to mention, the lack of structure. Because of this, my son did not do well there and ultimately was not able to attend these programs any longer. As a full time working parent, you can imagine the stress I was under when both programs dismissed my child.
I heard about Shine Bright through the CHILL PTO FB page and inquired with Bianca through messenger. She responded to my inquiry promptly, answered all my questions and had me scheduled for an in-person visit my next earliest convenience. Bianca is AMAZING and honestly, it's been the best thing that happened to our family. I'm no longer stressed at work on whether or not my son is going to get a “write up” today, or a phone call from the staff. Not to mention, my son never had his homework done when attending those other two places. I can tell you from experience, Shine Bright is all about routine and structure. Cayden gets most, if not all of his home work completed before I pick him up after school. Bianca and her staff have truly been a blessing in disguise and I would not know what I will do if their program is ever removed from Cumberland Hills before and after school bus route.
As a full time working parent of a child with behavior disorders, this would put me in quite a situation, one in which I wouldn't have any options to turn too. Not to mention, all the other parents from the others schools who I'm sure have stories that are similar and who's kids have made bonds with one another there. I hope all the school boards take this matter seriously as this is someone's business and livelihood. These parents and children need Shine Bright just as much as we need your schools. Thank you for your time and consideration.

Shine Bright is an absolute godsend and integral part of the town of Cumberland. Every single staff member is loving, caring, kind, and truly wants the best for each child that walks into their place of business. Every single school in town should be rewarded with the privilege to have access to shine bright as a preferred option for ... before and after school. To be quite honest they are the best model of care in our community. As a working parent, I don't have to ever worry because I know my child is being cared for. They are such positive Role models in my child's life. They saved my child from an awful experience at alpha best. They are my child's super heroes because they acted quick and did everything in their power to bring my child into their center.
We started out just going to activities but I am so glad my child is with them as well for before and after school. I will always be forever appreciative for shine bright. Regarding the change your all imposing To save a few bucks , and say no for other working families is quite appalling and quite frankly unacceptable. It's bad enough your re districting kids but your also imposing hardships for many working families that rely on and need care at a very affordable and high quality rate, essentially Your also going to Rob this business , for what , to save a few bucks? Please re think your decision and allow shine bright to do what they do best and that's shine brightly in town and making a difference in every child's life in town , not just one school.
I will be forever grateful to shine bright because they have made such a huge and positive impact on my child and I hope you allow them to do the same for other children across town , no matter what school they belong to. In conclusion, working parents do not need this added stress , they should feel a sense of relief that their children are cared for and shine bright needs to be accessible for every working family in town.

To whom it may concern:
I can't begin to express how grateful I am for Shine Bright and their after school program! As we were getting ready for our daughter to enter into kindergarten for this current school year, we kept going back and forth about what to do with her for after school. ... My husband works nights and I work your usual 9am-5pm job, and with elderly parents and not having access to having someone come watch her after school, our options were slim. In comes Shine Bright. They were offering before and after school care, with an agreement with the bus company for drop off and pick up. To us it was a no brainer!! Not only is Bianca Rossi and her team there to watch over my daughter, they are there to help her with her homework and let her have a safe space to decompress after a long day at school. As we all know, a long day at school is a lot for young child. And it gives my husband and I peace of mind, knowing my daughter is in a safe space and being able to enjoy some play time with the friends she met just by being there. They take such good care of her that some days, she doesn't want to leave! She loves being there and Bianca and her team love having her there and it shows. Being able to have the bus transportation to drop my daughter off there has been such a convenience and a Godsend! We wouldn't know what to do without Shine Bright! Please don't take that opportunity aware from other families that would need the care like we do!

School Committee Letter

Being new to the community this school year, Shine Bright has been an integral part to our family's transition into town. My daughter has been able to attend Shine Bright as needed before and after school, as well as snow days and scheduled days off from school. ... Attending this program has helped with her transition into town and gaining new friendships with children in the area.
While attending the Shine Bright before and after school program she has obtained the best care and support from staff. We are so appreciative of the care and feel that all families in the area could benefit from such a wonderful program, regardless of their school location. With school hour changes and likely continuing to conflict with many parents' work schedules, I feel that eliminating this resource for families in the community is detrimental
The Shine Bright staff put so much effort into providing quality care for all children that enter through their doors. Making such a negatively impactful decision regarding a small business in town would in turn negatively impact the parents and students of Cumberland Public Schools.
Thank you for your time, and hopeful reconsideration of this important decision.

Good morning Cumberland School Committee Members,
I am a mother of three students in the Cumberland School System. I am contacting you in support of Shine Bright Program being offered on Mendon Road. All of my children have attended the YMCA, ... and the Boys and Girls Club and two of my three children have attended Alphabest. With the school start times changing, it is imperative working parents like myself are given options for before and after school care. I have had one child who could no longer attend the YMCA, therefore it was not an option for the other two, in addition it added 30 minutes onto my commute in the morning just to bring them to Lincoln. I had one child who could no longer attend the Boys and Girls club, so it wasn't an option for me to send the other two. Alphabest is waitlisted so I wouldn't be able to sign my children up there. Two of the programs mentioned are bussed by Cumberland Schools to all of the elementary schools, and one is physically out of Cumberland.
Shine bright is a terrific option and it has saved me this past year because my youngest child who was in the Success Program at BF Norton was able to attend Shine Bright and is provided bussing to BF Norton. I hope you consider the benefit Shine Bright is to our town and community and support this new business and asset and continue to provide busing for the students to be able to attend Shine Brights programs next year and years going forward.
I appreciate your time and consideration.

To whom it may concern,
First and foremost, ShineBright is such an amazing support for the working families of Cumberland. Oh there's a distance learning day before Shine Bright, ... I was in a panic and had to take days out of work, now I send my daughter to Shine bright and ALL of her work is completed. Oh there's 10 holidays only Cumberland seems to celebrate, before Shine Bright again I would panic,Now my daughter can enjoy her day there with numerous activities while I still work. Bianca and her staff are loving and supportive, they're engaging. I know Bianca truly wants to make an impact on these children's lives , she works hard and is such a role model for these kiddos.
Another personal experience, I had so many issues involving the state for payment for my child's childcare. My daughter went to shine bright for over 3 months before Bianca saw a dime, now that is not something you see everyday especially a new business. She didn't have to allow my child to keep going, but She is truly there serving our community! Now she DESERVES the support of our community to help her to continue to run her business.
Thank you.

Good morning Cumberland School Committee Members,
It saddens me to hear that I even have to write this email to plead for care for my daughter, but here I am. As a full time working, single mother I depend on before and after school care. ... Last year, when my schedule changed I started looking for care so I could still work and found Shine Bright. AlphaBest was on a waiting list, and the programs are far and few between. I am grateful Shine Bright has been a safe, fun spot for Ashlyn to enjoy.
With the upcoming changes next year with the school times changing, I will still need before and after school camp. If you take the buses away from the all inclusive Shine Bright, parents like myself will be forced to find new jobs, not work at all, and stress about getting our children to school. I am pleading with you to keep the bus transportation so children can still attend Shine Bright and parents can have one less thing to worry about.
With all the uncertainty in the world and the fear of raising our children in a different world then we grew up in, it gives solitude to know there is a program that is safe, fun, and protective of our children. Please do not take that away from us.

Shine Bright Parent

Dear Cumberland School Committee,
My name is Jennifer Guertin, my daughter Cora has been enrolled in Shine Bright's after school program this year and I could not be more grateful that such a business is available to Cumberland. ...
My daughter is 9, she is a Garvin Student and has notable health concerns. She has oppositional defiance disorder, ADHD, Anxiety and Tourette's Syndrome. As a single working parent, I need to be able to trust that my daughter has adequate care. We have used Alphabest in the past and the students/ staff they hire are not educated/ trained or responsible enough to meet my child's needs. She was kicked out within one week and honestly I was going to remove her after I found her traumatized and hiding under a table. The same type of staff is available at Boys and Girls club. Shine Bright is trained, compassionate and providing life skills not just a safe place after-school.
Bianca Rossi and her staff promote and open safe space that is structured and unbiased. Children are encouraged to make eye contact when speaking among countless other life skills. My daughter uses a mini bus 5 days a week with other disabled children who attend Garvin outside of Garvin district. Are these other children not able to go to Garvin next year either. The reason to not offer busing when there are students from Garvin in the Shine Bright area makes not sense. I humbly ask you to reconsider your decision to offer busing to Shine Bright students for next school years.
With all the uncertainty in the world and the fear of raising our children in a different world then we grew up in, it gives solitude to know there is a program that is safe, fun, and protective of our children. Please do not take that away from us.

My family was really stuck to find an option for child care when my daughter’s elementary school moved to the high school and began early dismissal on Wednesdays. Alphabest was already full and we needed a more affordable and flexible option than they provided anyway. ...
I reached out to the community and learned about Shine Bright and what they offered was too good to be true. This has been the best option for my child and family in more ways than I can count. This isn’t just a daycare option but a place that encourages emotional growth, responsibility, and learning on top of all the fun.
I have friends and family in other sections of town who are already counting on Shine Bright’s before school care next year because their work hours cannot be met by the Alphabest program. I have no idea how some families will be able to balance their work/home lives without Shine Bright as an option. While it is wonderful that the town is updating our schools, it is a slap in the face to expect families to go with the flow when faced with a change of start/end times and then take away a major source of family support in Shine Bright.
If anything, the school department should be really appreciative for this business because they help families feel less stress by providing a child care option when you call a snow day or plan for a virtual day. It’s time to respect this business and Cumberland families by showing it some support.

Letter to School Committee
My name is Tammy Kerr-Gaudette, and my daughter attends before and after school programs at Shine Bright. I ask that you please sustain transportation for all Cumberland school students so they are able to attend this amazing program. ...
My daughter requires support and structure, as she is on a school program for her behavioral needs. She not only receives exactly this from Shine Bright; but this is professionally executed with the staff so that there are no downstream occurrences, and my daughter also feels cherished and supported despite these specific needs. This is such a delicate balance, and the staff at Shine Bright executes this with precision. The program that is run by Shine Bright is an amazing resource and we are so fortunate to have this at our disposal.
The availability of this program allows me to keep my occupation, which affords us to be financially comfortable in these current and difficult times. The disruption to the accessibility of this program could certainly cause financial tumoil for so many families that need these services in our community.
Please consider our small community that you serve, and retain the accessibility of busing to and from Shine Bright for so many families who desire and depend upon the incredible staff and services of Shine Bright.

Written by Kaleb age 6, "I like to go to Shine Bright after school. I take the bus there. They help me with my homework. Then I get to go outside after. Miss Bianca, Miss Carol, Miss Sam and Miss Kayla are the best. I love Shine Bright." ... When my son started K in the fall I was worried about how I would be able to work a full-time job around his school hours. Thankfully I came across an ad on Facebook about Shine Bright and figured I'd give them a shot. I am so glad i did. My six year old gets angry when I pick him up too early because he didn't get to play enough with his friends (most dont even attend his school). The staff are friendly and make sure the kids are cared for in a safe, clean and respectful environment. Words don't describe how much I appreciate the staff.
The fact that my child comes home and tells me how much he loves going to "camp" and the staff is enough for me to stay hooked. As a matter of fact I told my husband we cannot move out of Cumberland because Shine Bright is a great before, after school and summer program that is affordable, flexible and welcoming to children with all sorts of needs. Thank you to the staff for being so wonderful.
